Experience

EXPERIENCE

Experience mostly works similarly to that of classic Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, however there are some key differences to be aware of.

Level Difference Formula

The amount of experience you gain when killing a monster can vary if there is a large enough difference between your level (CLVL) and the monster's level (MLVL). This formula is changed as shown in the tables below.

Party Mechanics

The range at which you still receive experience for kills by your party members has been greatly increased compared to classic Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction.

In Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, experience from a killed monster is divided among players in the same area.

  • For example, at two players, a monster had extra 50% exp, but then the total amount was divided between the players.
  • Now, players will always get 100% experience from nearby monster kills, regardless of how many other players there are in the game, nearby, or who got the kill.
  • This translates to more experience during group play compared to before, as experience is no longer divided. For example, a monster killed with 8 players nearby now provides a total of 800% experience (100% to each nearby player). For characters solo-farming on games with multiple people, they will also only get a max of 100% experience per kill.

The damage and life monsters gain per player from Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction is still maintained.

Maximum Level

Compared to Diablo II: Lord of Destruction's level 99, the highest experience level you can obtain currently is 151.

The Ancients

Unlike Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, the Ancients quest does not give increased experience vs other difficulties. It is 50 000 experience for each difficulty.

Experience Loss on Death

This mechanic does not exist in Median XL, this, along with the gold penalty, has been replaced with a 5 second cooldown on death.
